Momentum is not a good film and in being honest, I couldn''t finish it. I liked Olga Kurylenko in Oblivion and although Quantum of Solace wasn''t a good Bond film, Olga was okay in it. But she''s just not believable in Momentum and a large part of that has to do with how the film is shot and then the script. The director uses far too many quick cuts for not just action sequences but also mundane things. There are also too many hand held "shaky cam" shots that end up looking sloppy. Then throw in combat scenes and it just gets worse. It''s like the music video style of film making when the director doesn''t have the talent to tell the story with skill so relies on gimmicks instead.

The combat sequences are a hot mess as they''re plagued by the same problems mentioned above. Too many quick cuts/fast edits in combination with shaky cam shots with the camera being too close to the action to the point that it''s hard for the viewer to actually see the technique being used in the fights. It''s like amateur night at the Apollo for directors. This style of filming action sequences is also popular for films that feature actors that have little to no stage fighting ability. Keep the edits fast and the camera close to give the impression that the lead is better than he/she actually is. This is why you don''t see Donnie Yen as an example filming fight scenes in the style used in Momentum because he can believably carry a fight scene, is very particular about which fighting style his characters use with the goal of showcasing those techniques on camera. In short, Donnie Yen knows what he''s doing.

The other problem is the script. In short, it''s stupid. The way the story is being told, we''re shown a bank heist with no context. Characters with no development and there is a horrible lack of consistency with what little details we are given. For example, when the bank robbers are emptying the diamonds into a small bag, a computer component falls into the bag as well. This component is not that small that it should have gone unnoticed, but it does. That was a total "huh" moment as these robbers obviously paid attention to a lot of detail to plan this heist but somehow they missed the component even though it fell into the bag right in front of them.

Another instance, Olga goes to see her partner Kevin (?) in his hotel room. There''s a knock at the door and he tells Olga to hide because that''s his contact in a blackmail scheme and she''ll run if she knows he''s not alone. The irritating bit about this is, a guy who looked like a hotel employee saw Olga go into Kevin''s room before his contact showed. The guy is apparently a hit man (read: not a hotel employee) and crashes into Kevin''s room with his contact at gun point as well as a crew of typically over-the-top henchmen. For the hit man to supposedly be a professional, he never mentioned or even looked for Olga in the room even though there''s a standing order of "no witnesses" and he JUST SAW HER go into the room not even 5 minutes prior. I made it through 49 minutes of the film and in that time there are too many of these "come on now" moments in the film. Momentum tries so hard to be edgy that it stumbles over its own ambition and ends up being a wreck of a film.

One more, one of the bank robbers was apparently a junkie that was high as a kite during the heist. Not only did this clown jeopardize the heist, he tried to kill Olga which resulted in him being shot to death instead. When the bank robbers are in their get away van, one of them freaks out because their bank robber buddy is dead and Olga killed him. Well, he definitely would care more than the audience would because nothing was revealed about him. Not even what he looked like so why should we care as an audience? Bank robber "D" was a junkie low life that needed to be put down by one of his crew. Oh, okay...why should we care? That''s how it came off.

1*. The action genre deserves better than this. Tell the story in a convincing way. Give the viewer a reason to care about what''s going on. Give some type of character development early to make it interesting and again, give us a reason to care. If The Matrix has taught us anything, it''s that even if your lead actor/actress doesn''t have fighting skills on camera, that''s no excuse. Train them. Hard. Otherwise the lame fight scenes in Momentum is what you get.
This film should have been much better than it is but if what should have happened was a definite then Hillary would be running for re-election, COVID-19 would be something we''re talking about in the past tense and the last Star Wars trilogy should have never happened. Ever.

I picked the movie in the app. The rating appeared low (it''s lower in the app than the site for some reason), but the trailer seemed good, so I watched it. If you''re looking for an edge of your seat, can''t wait to see what happens next, curse the characters for a seemingly occasional dumb choice (nobody is - should be - perfect) escape, then this is it.

The main faces are familiar and the actors do their jobs well. As is typical for the genre, the supporting actors are mostly unknown and are hit or miss. I thought the overly teched-out intro scene dragged on too long only to become mostly irrelevant to the plot. (Teched out bank robbers, infighting to protect a hostage, witnesses see a face, etc. So much is thrown into that scene only to never be brought up again. And the robbers only get $30k? The tech was more expensive than what they got.) Anyway, I digress. That really was its only relevant flaw.

The plot was simple and straight forward (thank god) and not convoluted as these things have a habit of being these last several years.

If you can sit, suspend belief for 90-120+ mins and enjoy that The Rock, Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Tom Cruise, etc can save the world after taking a few dozen bullets, being repeatedly beaten with blunt objects, falling from tall structures and/or rapidly moving vehicles, then you should have no problem enjoying this movie.

The only difference is it''s Olga Kurylenko giving and taking the hits. And she does it well.

Olga Kurylenko... mesmerizing... but , for some crazy reason she and a few other petite beautiful women have found vehicles such as this; bank robbers, "elite trained" ex-military killing machines... wow... It just doesn''t compute, for me. For movies such as this, please somebody showcase the incredible stunt women/men who do the actual work. Olga is incredibly mesmerizing and beautiful to watch on screen IN MEANINGFUL ROLES, but this is a pure joke. Spoiler alter; Her character, in this one after a few silly "mistakes" , mades early in the film, she suddenly performs borderline miracle magic martial arts and incredible accurate pistol shooting... wow... yet faced with multi-targets earlier in this movie, her character misses them all, at less than 5 feet away! Wow... It gets really weird when she appears out of nowhere like the lone ranger, on cue to save her nephew and sister, but somehow missed all those other easy targets earlier, and did all those other stupid things! ... and of course, the one REALLY "bad guy" she can''t seem to kill , survives, even more fantastically; gets saved for the final scenes... this is a jokey goofy movie, so preposterous I couldn''t complete it.. My question is why great actresses such as Scarlet Johanson and Olga and a few others, all feel it is so "freeing" and assertive to play these roles... preposterous roles showcasing skills none of them have in real life... sweet females who have presence, DEPTH, a wide range and depth , INCREDIBLE acting skills never used in a movie such as this...their talent wasted... YET, for the easy$ they rush to sign on to these projects where they can make huge money, really HUGE MONEY doing NOTHING! and actually none of that real martial art skill is anywhere in their true ability EVER going to be in sight for them, it''s all stunt people, so... to play these roles, it''s all fake, never a deep scene of emotion, just flashy posturing, then replaced with stunt doubles and they collect their checks!????? Is any of this acting...is this actually a "movie"? I truly wonder... meanwhile in real life there are so few humans who can do any of this kind of "magic fantasy martial art"... just sayin'', even the best can''t do these kinds of fantastic moves... neither do you need to be able to, in order to defeat a foe far easier moves requiring LESS skill work efficiently, and never taking so much time. It is estimated that an actual street fight takes less than 8 seconds time, IN other words, if you have the skills you live or die in less than 10 seconds, it''s all reaction and efficiency.... this MOVIE is comic book land... there are just too many films like this... nothing real here... pure fantasy... and for me an insult to my sensibility. I actually care about Olga the person...and I wonder, why does she stoop so low for this kind of silliness????
I can see that Olga can "act"... I wish a true movie with a real plot would AGAIN be offered for her, or perhaps that she "wakes up" at least once in awhile plays the role of a real person again ... something that never requires these fake realities to float.

Set and filmed in Capetown, SA, present day.

Olga Kurylenko plays Alexis. The film starts out as a bank heist and proceeds full throttle to an end (sorta). Olga is a Ukranian gal who moved to France when she was 16 to pursue a modeling career.

The film starts out in a bank being robbed, ostensibly for diamonds. The robbers are high-tech but apparently not loyal to each other. The rest of the film involves shoot outs and chases. Mr. Washington (Purefoy) wants what else the robbers stole.

It turns out that a U.S. Senator (played by Morgan Freeman) hired Washington to retrieve a computer "drive" that apparently has incriminating data on it. As the chase rolls on, there''s plenty of violence and fighting (some blood) but no nudity (unfortunately, seeing as how Olga stars in the film).

This is a guy film. A heist, car chases, shoot-outs, pretty girls. The problem is that the ending is like the old serial shorts in the theatres: there is no closure to the story. What happens to Morgan Freeman? Is the plot foiled? What happens to the lovely Olga?

Movies should tell stories and should have the core essence of a story: a beginning, a middle and an ending. This one jumps right in to the action and leaves the ending to our imagination.

So I watched Girl Assassin Next Door like a few years ago which had Olga Kurylenko as hitman or assassin or something. I didn''t like that film.

This film I actually did kinda like. I thought it was well done. I dont understand the absolute beating it took from critics. Though it was a box office failure. Maybe its me but action is my favorite genre and I''ve seen worse.

Yes the story is nothing crazy creative or.to write home.about but outside of a few plot holes, stupid character decisions, and scenes that stretch the imagination I found it a pretty action solid.

Anyway I''ll give this movie praise for jumping straight into the action from the opening at a bank robbery and building in the exposition without a boring, slow, lull like a lot of films do. It''s a steady drip of action of shootouts and chases from beginning to 50 minutes in. It sloes down in the 3rd act but eh I can deal with it by then.

As far as the acting I found most of it decent to good. Most of the bad actors/actresses end up killed off pretty quick.

Another thing I disliked was the dumb actions of our ''highly-trained CIA operative''. Such as pointing a gun at someone without checking it''s clip or sneaking into a building with your cellphone on.

The ending was also slightly open ended as if they were expecting a sequel but based on its box office bomb status I think we can assume that isn''t going to happen.

Momentum..

Well.. let''s see.. I see one of the most amazingly beautiful women in the world of actresses holding a gun, flanked by my second favorite bad-guy in movies.. so I have to take a peek right?

Frankly, the movie was not disappointing for the most part at all, it was instead a really good movie. There are a couple of times where the plot almost get''s lost (hence only getting 4 stars).. however, it''s quickly put back in the forefront and the movie takes you on a wild ride from start to finish with very few breaks in the action that don''t involve the story line and the main characters.

All in all, well worth the money, and a happy addition to my movie collection that will see plenty of re-watches.
